Few periods in history stimulate the imagination as much as the Viking era. Scandinavia, the British Isles, The Low Countries, France, Russia, Spain, Italy, Greece, all the Mediterranean, the Black sea, Africa and even America were normal destinations for Viking longships.

Sailors, pirates, colonizers, merchants, town and nation builders the Vikings were all of these and more. Fröjel (Pronounced Fro-yel) is a family based Viking Re-enactment society depicting the Vikings from Fröjel harbor on Gotland, one of the richest Viking trading centers in the Viking world.

The member's aims are to re-create the clothing, weapons, tools, jewelry, games, foods and furniture of the period, to enjoy an escape to a simpler more relaxed time while putting on displays for the public and getting together with like minded people.

Of course battle re-enactment is a little more strenuous but strict safety procedures are adhered to at all times by those who want to test what they have made.

Welcome, we have put this data base together with the help of many people in the hope that it will be of use to you by providing good quality pictures of artifacts, accurate articles and a variety of links to other sources and people so you will be able to get an accurate picture of the Vikings. The purpose of this data base is to help you the student or re-enactor to do what you do more accurately and to try to save you hours of research. It is based specifically on the Gotland Vikings but as you will see Gotland was the trading centre of the Viking world for hundreds of years and the artifacts being found are from most of the known Viking world, with artifacts which are Norwegian, Finn, Rus, Irish, Arabic and even an Indian Budda Gotland touched many people in the so called dark ages. Many of you will find items on these pages and refer to them as Sutten Hoo or Danish or Irish but all were found on Gotland. For those fortunate enough to have either Volume 1 or 2 of Lena Thunmark-Nylen's books of photographs of Gotlandic artifact this is no surprise for they show by Parish and group where the items were excavated on Gotland, for those who doubt this statement I suggest that the purchase of these books is a great investment because they have many items which probably pertain to your area and period. The photo quality is excellent and they contain thousands of artifacts from finds all over Gotland. The scale is nearly allways 1 to 1 so you get an accurate idea of each item. We have allready made a number of replicas of the more commen household items. Jewellry, bowls and tools.

While some of the replica jewellery is hand made many of the items have actually been moulded from the original artifact and as such are very accurate copies and show what the original looked like when it was actually made, there is no guess work just accuracy. For those of you trying to make copies we have included side and sometimes even back views in order that you may see the whole item.

This page will probably never be finished because we shall be adding to it all the time and as new finds come to hand we shall be adding the picture for you. For this reason please come back again whenever you have not visited for a while because there will be more here to look at. For those wishing to add links to their home page or club please feel free to email it to me

Thank you and I hope you enjoy your visit to our humble little page.
